Description/extras: Ford Falcon XY GTHO Phase 3 Vermillion Fire

Delivered to Lindau Ford in Merredin, WA brand new, this Vermillion Fire Phase III is the most recognised colour for these cars and this particular one presents in fantastic condition all round and comes with a fascinating history that spans the width and breadth of this vast country.

Sold by its first keeper in 1973 because he couldn’t afford to run it because of the 1973 oil crisis the Phase III found a home with its second keeper in Darwin where it survived Cyclone Tracy with the only damage being a scratch on the passenger-side door window. Around 1981 the owner moved and brought the car to Brisbane where it was used and enjoyed on a regular basis with the engine being rebuilt by Bill Mann in Slacks Creek before being sold to the current custodian in 1986 who has stated that this is best balanced and best idling GTHO in the country. This GTHO had close to 55,000miles on the odometer when the current keeper took delivery from the second owner at the Beenleigh Show in 1986 and drove it through the night back to country Victoria arriving the next afternoon. Since that journey the headlights in this car have never been used with the current owner refusing to drive at night and only clocking up minimal mileage in the 32 years they have owned the car. In 2001 the current custodian enlisted GTHO restoration master Frank Portelli to ‘tidy it up’. Three years later the car arrived back with the car having enjoyed a full rotisserie restoration to the highest scrutiny with every single aspect of the car treated to refurbishment and the car now presents in beautiful condition having only travelled a little over 4000miles since 2004.

As a piece of Australian history that has seen a lot of history in its 46 years of life, from travelling coast-to-coast to be caught in Cyclone Tracy, having two long time owners and a complete restoration, this Phase III has been there and seen it all.

This Phase III currently runs a ‘winged’ sump from an XA GT RPO83 which is the only alteration made during the restoration with the current custodian still in possession of the original sump.
