Description/extras: We have sold 2 Track Red Phase IIIs in the last few months and they both hit 1 Million this Ford Falcon XY GTHO Phase 3 Track Red is a rare car that has great history...will it hit the magic 7 figures, only YOU will decide that ...BID NOW.

This Phase III was delivered to McClusky Ford in Mt Gravatt, Brisbane where the dealer principal contracted motorsport legend Ian ‘Pete’ Geoghegan to race this very car at Bathurst in 1971. To this end the current custodian advises that the engine was sent to Ford to be updated to QC specification and the car was race prepared by McClusky for The Great Race.

Circumstances however stifled any chance of Pete driving in the 1971 Bathurst 1000 resulting in a disappointing DNS for the five-time ATCC champ.

This car was then painted in Wild Violet which was the favoured colour of Bryan Byrt Ford who subsequently bought out McClusky and this car with it. This car was then used in testing at Surfers Paradise in late 1972 with another legend, John French, at the wheel in anticipation that the XA hardtops wouldn’t be ready for the 1973 Australian Touring Car Season. Come the new year however this XY GTHO was sold from Bryan Byrt Ford who then went racing in the XA coupes. The first owner used it on the road before his best friend took possession of the car. Shortly after that the current custodian bought this car and it has been in their care for around 30 years. Painted back to its original Track Red colour in the 1980s this is an amazing car with race provenance and a great history including placing first in the Contemporary class at the 2003 GT Nationals. A CAMS log book, larger race camshaft and wheels come with this car.

This GTHO is a very special part of Australian motorsport history and one which will continue to garner attention because of its provenance wherever it goes.
